What is the meaning of a Mandala???
The meaning of mandala comes from Sanskrit meaning “circle.” It is a spiritual and ritual symbol in the Indian religions of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism representing the universe. Mandalas have served mankind for centuries.
Even though it may be having features like squares or triangles, a mandala always has a concentric (circular) nature. The basic form of most mandalas is a square with four gates containing a circle with a center point. Each gate is in the general shape of a T. Mandalas often have radial balance.
Mandalas offer balancing visual elements, symbolizing unity and harmony. The meanings of mandala depend upon color, geometric elements and culture.
The goal of the mandala is to serve as a tool on our spiritual journey as it symbolizes cosmic and psychic order.
In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention of practitioners and adepts, as a spiritual guidance tool, for establishing a sacred space and as an aid to meditation and trance induction.
